Two giants team up as the Apple Watch Nike+ aims to keep you motivated and on track with just a quick glance at your wrist
While the Apple Watch Series 2 represented a complete overhaul for Cupertino’s wrist-worn smart tech, Nike had decided to do away with their first foray into wearables when they discontinued the FuelBand in 2014. While they were rumoured to be heavily involved in the first iteration of Apple’s latest darling, their input only went as a far as a third party app. Now though, the two giants have teamed up, and the Apple Watch Nike+ represents the fruits of their labour.
While its outward appearance may be fairly similar, it’s what lives under the hood that marks this out as a standalone motivational tool, specifically for those who like to spend their spare time pounding the pavement. Featuring in-built GPS to track pace, distance and route, the metrics are easy to read, even in bright sunlight (for all you fair weather fans). And if it’s a wetter workout you prefer, the Apple Watch Nike+ is water resistant to 50m.
Exclusive faces – including Nike’s famous “Volt” colour – ensure this won’t be mistaken for a run-of-the-mill Apple Watch Series 2, and a distinctive lightweight strap with compression moulded perforations help to ensure the wearable is as lightweight as it is functional. You can even launch the Nike+ Run Club app from the watch itself, so there’s no need to carry your phone around with you.
One swipe allows you to check on all the important data, while reminders triggered by friends’ activity keeps you on your toes and battling to beat your best. You can connect socially with your friends (if the desire takes you), and the on-board scheduler acts as your drill sergeant so you’ll never miss another appointment with your PB again.
Available in four colour ways, you’ll soon become that person eager to bore all and sundry with your workout metrics, but at least you’ll have earned that catch-up latte – and you’ll have all the stats on your wrist to prove it.
