The Geo Orbital turns your existing bike electric by retrofitting and replacing the original wheel.
E-bikes can divide opinion when it comes to cost and styling and if you’ve already splashed out on a perfectly respectable road bike it makes little sense to buy another.
Enter the Geo Orbital, an e-bike wheel which adds an electric motor your existing model so you can reach speeds of up to 20mph when you’ve had enough of huffing and puffing up hills.
The 500W direct drive motor is cleverly housed in the aerospace-grade aluminium wheel and benefits from a top quality Panasonic battery – the same electronics company supplying Tesla cars with its cells.
All you need to do is clip a throttle onto your handlebars and away you go with “twice the power of an Olympic cyclist” at your disposal, transforming your daily commute with a little less sweat and maybe even 10 extra minutes in bed.
When it comes to usability, the Geo Orbital takes under a minute to install without tools and has a hardy flat-proof solid foam tyre covered in rubber. You can keep tabs on the battery level via your smartphone and there’s a built-in USB port for charging devices on-the-go,
The wheels comes in two sizes and its makers claim they will fit over 95 per cent of all adult bicycles. Max range is 20 miles without pedalling and 50 with, while a two hour charge offers up 80 per cent capacity and a four hour charge for full capacity.
